location

where we are ...

Gül Baba House is perched above the charming village of Kalkan, easily reached by car or taxi. A traditional goat path running alongside the property will lead more robust travellers through olive groves to the village in 15 minutes. Many of the region's most celebrated Lycian and ancient Greek sites are just a short drive away; some are also at the end of well-marked hiking trails. Close by is the wonderful alpine village of Islamlar, celebrated both for its traditional water-powered flour mills and excellent (and cheap!) trout restaurants. Patara, at 20km the longest sand beach in Turkey, is 15 minutes away by car. For those who prefer the crystal clear water of the Mediterranean without the sand, bathing platforms are dotted around Kalkan harbour, and some are attached to restaurants where you can enjoy lunch or just a drink. Larger settlements with even more activities and dining options are Kas, 20km to the east, and Fethiye, the closest city to Kalkan at 80km to the northwest. Traditional villages can be found perched in mountains soaring 3000 meters (10,000 feet).

driving directions

Gül Baba House is located down a steep driveway off a dirt lane in a part of Kalkan called Kodere (pronounced Kur-deh-reh). The dirt lane is reached from the Bezirgan road (which has destination markers of Elmali and Sutlegen at main junction as you come from the airport to Kalkan). The lane is just after the route marker 07-53//001. There is blue bus shelter right at the beginning of our lane, which is on the right hand side of the Bezirgan road as you climb out of Kalkan. Our house is a sharp right at the old well on the dirt lane about five houses down the beginning of the lane. We're the further of two houses that share the driveway. The first is green Nane Evi (Mint House); Gül Baba House is pink.
